Our client, an innovative medical device company in Kansas city, is seeking a highly-qualified and motivated patent agent for a team focused on mechanical engineering patent matters in Kansas City. An advanced degree (Ph.D. or masters) in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering or comparable degree is required. Ideal candidates will have 0 to 2 years of experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications for medical device and mechanical inventions; and/or experience a university tech transfer, or industry commercialization/regulatory compliance. Previous law firm or industry experience and current patent bar membership is preferred, however, candidates with strong scientific backgrounds who have not passed the patent bar exam will be considered. A strong candidate can demonstrate the ability to apply scientific expertise together with commercial and legal considerations to understand our clients’ big picture in the commercialization sense; is comfortable with oral presentation and explanation of work product; and is comfortable and effective at working independently. Candidates should have excellent academic credentials, experience in medical research or similar environment and superior writing, communication and problem-solving skills.
