In-House Intellectual Property Attorney Jobs description

An in-house intellectual property attorney protects the intellectual property rights of individuals as well as the organization and is responsible for assessing if any given innovation, improvement, or invention can be patented or not. An in-house intellectual property attorney is also responsible for creating draft patent applications, and protects the client in case of an infringement as well as counsel the company regarding patent and intellectual property matters. An in-house intellectual property attorney provides transactional support for intellectual property related agreements, including confidentiality, technology licensing, technical services, and joint development agreements. An in-house intellectual property attorney works with senior management and company project teams develop and implement strategy for protection of the organization intellectual property and trademarks. An in-house intellectual property attorney prepares recommendation and work with outside counsel on patent prosecution and patent litigation related to protection of patent portfolio and company products. An in-house intellectual property attorney has to keep an eye on development in and changes to patent laws and other intellectual property laws.

An in-house intellectual property attorney requires a strong background in either science or technology. An in-house intellectual property attorney must have excellent academic credentials from a top-tier law school. A Bar membership is essential. An in-house intellectual property attorney must have excellent written and oral communication skills, superior analytical ability, technical versatility, and the ability to work well with clients and inventors. An in-house intellectual property attorney should be able to prioritize and execute high load of work under pressure.
