Patent Counsel Jobs description

A patent counsel works with business units, patent engineers, and outside counsel to develop intellectual property (IP) strategies early in the business and technology planning cycle for the protection and commercial exploitation of intellectual property. A patent counsel coordinates with and oversees outside counsel to insure that the prosecution of domestic and foreign patent applications is aligned with the intellectual property strategies. A patent counsel works with patent engineers and patent review committees to insure that intellectual property is protected in a manner that is consistent with the intellectual property strategies. A patent counsel cooperates and coordinates with the licensing group to insure that the intellectual property strategies and their implementation support current licensing activity and future licensing opportunities.
A patent counsel requires a jurist doctorate degree from an accredited law school. A minimum of four years\' experience in a law firm or in-house legal department with significant patent analysis and litigation experience is preferred for patent counsel. A patent counsel also needs strategic management of patent and IP litigation matters. A patent counsel should be eligible to obtain a national security clearance. In addition, strong interpersonal skills, technical knowledge, and superior writing abilities are preferred skills for patent counsel.
